KVPY Preparation Tips (SA, SX & SB Streams)

Understanding the Syllabus
For the preparation of any exam, the most important part is to understand the syllabus. KVPY exam consists of questions from basic science subjects Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology. Refer to the official website of the KVPY exam to have a broader understanding of the KVPY syllabus.
Preparation Strategy
It always important to follow a systematic approach towards any exam. So, plan your preparation accordingly. Prepare a schedule of topics covered and how much time will be dedicated for each topic. Study Plan
Make a time table of your daily routine. Divide your day into time intervals as in how much time is required for studying, solving question papers and other activities. Try to give at least 2-3 hours for studying every subject individually, 3 hours for solving question paper and 1 hours for revision.
Time Management
Try to solve one question paper completely in the given time frame of 3 hours as it is one of the most important tool to score good marks. This will help you to manage your time for the aptitude test. Try to solve those questions that you are confident enough to solve correctly.
Clear Your Concept
Make sure to clear your concept on any topic as your preparation would be complete only when you will have a clear understanding of your topic. Refer to NCERT Books
Since most of the questions are prepared from NCERT books, referring to NCERT books would be the wisest choice. NCERT books are best source of preparation for any exam. Refer to NCERT books of class 10th, 11th and 12th.
Identify your Strengths and Weaknesses
It’s very important to analyze your strengths and weaknesses for any preparation. Once you will able to identify them, then it will be easier for you to focus on your weaknesses more thereby reducing the chance of committing mistakes. On the other hand, working on your strengths will help you to achieve a perfection in that topic.
Solve KVPY Previous Year Papers
Try to solve at previous year KVPY exam papers. This will give you an idea about the exam pattern and will help you to identify the important topics. This will help you to get an overview of the exam and you would be able to understand how to answer KVPY questions and solve the question paper accurately within given time frame.
Mock Tests
We are all aware of the fact that “Practice makes a man perfect” and it is again an important tip to prepare for KVPY exam. Try to solve as many mock papers as you can. You can either get the mock tests online or from your coaching classes if you have joined any. These mock tests help you in time management and help you to judge yourself. This will also help you to find out your weak areas so that you can work on them.
Revision
Start revising your syllabus at least 2 months before the exam. Revise all your important notes, formulae and all the important points before.
Important Topics Subject Wise
MATHEMATICS: You must prepare for mathematics from Class 10th and class 11th books. Some of the important chapters from mathematics are Quadratic Equation, Calculus, Progression and Series, Probability, Permutations and Combination, 2D and 3D Geometry, Coordinate Geometry.
CHEMISTRY: For physical chemistry, refer to class 11th course and for organic chemistry class 10th syllabus is good to refer. Refer to NCERT books for inorganic chemistry. The important topics to be covered are Atomic Structure, Chemical Energetics, Chemical Bonding, Stoichiometry and Gaseous State.
BIOLOGY: Refer to class 10th and class 11th syllabus for Biology preparation. Some of the important topics to be covered in Biology are Biomolecules, Genetics and Evolution, Reproduction and Biology in Human Welfare, Human Physiology, Plant Anatomy and Physiology and Cell Biology.
PHYSICS: Refer to class 10th and class 11th syllabus for Physics preparation. Some of the important topics in Physics are AC, Magnetism, Electrostatics, Light, Electricity, Ray and Wave.
