I got 60% in Pre-Boards, Can I also crack JEE Main and Advanced?
Many students choose to start their preparation for their entry into IITs through the JEE examination much before their grade 12,in most cases, as early as their grade 9.The Joint Entrance Exam, or more commonly known as JEE came to replace AIEEE in 2012, and since then, there has been a sea change in the application process. However, if someone has not had the chance to begin his preparation in advance, we shall discuss in brief how he can still crack JEE Main and Advanced:
- SET YOUR FOCUS: The first step to success is to get started right. You have to remember that you are competing with several others who probably have been working longer at their goal than you are, so keep your concentration centered at your goal. KEEP THE FOCUS ON YOUR PREPARATION.
- SPEED IT UP: You have to make sure you have the pace that is needed for you to quickly solve numerical problems. Try to practice in simulated real time.Keep an eye out for what types of numerical take how much time. A good speed along with a great accuracy rate can do wonders for your JEE scorecard. So try to pace it up with accuracy.
- PRACTICE MORE: A lot of numerical based questions are asked in all three subjects-Physics, Chemistry as well as Mathematics. Keep practicing in order to avoid any last minute surprises.
- TRY A GOOD COACHING INSTITUTE: Coaching institutes usually follow a much-planned approach towards JEE preparation. Not only a good institute helps you in working towards a variety of problems but also judges your performance in order to fill gaps in preparation. You come to know how you are faring Vis-a-Vis others.
- GET THE BEST BOOKS: The best tool towards a good JEE score is a good book, a good resource for knowledge. IF one has the right mix of content and correct guidance, his chances for cracking the JEE grow multifold. There are several books that one may consider, and we shall discuss a few herein:
- Maths: NCERT textbook- never fails you!
- IIT Mathematics for JEE (Main and Advanced)by M.L. Khanna-has some of the best concepts.
- New Pattern IITJEE Mathematics by Dr. S.K. Goyal-has several numerical.
- Chemistry:NCERT Textbook-always the best resource!
- Organic Chemistry, by Morrison and Boyd
- Numerical Chemistry for JEE Main and Advanced, by P. Bahadur
- Concise Inorganic Chemistry, by J.D. Lee
- PHYSICS: Concepts of Physics, Volumes 1 and 2, by H.C. Verma
- Problems in General Physics, by I.E. Irodov
- Fundamentals of Physics, by Halliday, Resnick, and Walker
Apart from these books, there are books by several authors that can be used for preparation.
- MAKE A REALISTIC STUDY SCHEDULE:Always make a realistic study plan. Do not get overwhelmed and make a plan that neither you stick to nor does it work for you. A practical daily study schedule would be a mix of the following :
- Regularly practice a set number of numerical from all subjects.
- Always work in simulated conditions to prepare well.
- Keep an eye out for your regular mistakes
- Prioritize your areas for improvement; always work on the difficult part first.
- Always try to achieve your daily study target
- Work on previous years’ papers
- NEVER EVER GIVE UP!
- KEEP TIME FOR REVISION: Always remember that revision of all key concepts is necessary before the D-day, so always keep time for that. Make sure you have enough time to revise tough concepts and the ones which took more of your time as those might otherwise cause trouble on the exam day. Try to complete as many revisions as you can.
- NEVER LOSE HOPE: It is very important to mention here that the students should not lose heart over small failures. It is important to always set your best foot forward and give the JEE test your best shot. However, for whatever reasons, if one is unable to crack the JEE examination, he should be willing to accept it and move on. Remember that there are opportunities in every sphere of life. Always remind yourself that no one can do it better than you. Attitude is the key to success.
Keeping in mind the above, one can hope to crack the JEE in spite of not being able to start early.Always remember that it is never too late to start and well begun is half done.
