Which one is better for NRIs-JEE or BITSAT
The JEE-or the Joint Entrance Exam is held every year for admissions to the Indian Institute of Technology (located at several places), NITs and some more Govt funded technical Institutes while the BITSAT is held in order to get admission to the prestigious Birla Institute of Technology, situated at three locations in India-Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad Historically speaking JEE is considered a very tough examination to crack and its preparation begins as early as high school grades. Since JEE is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education, it expects students to be thorough with their concepts from their 8th grade onwards.
From the point of view of the difficulty of cracking test of each, we can breakdown the comparison point by point-
- SPEED and ACCURACY compatibility:
In the JEE test, a candidate has to solve 90 questions in 180 minutes, while he is expected to solve 150 questions in 180 minutes, so it is actually the speed and accuracy that sets the tone for cracking the test.
- TIME constraint:
Clearly, since students have more time per question in a JEE examination, they get more time per question whereas they have to accurately solve each question keeping in mind the time constraint while appearing for the BITSAT
- CONCEPTUAL clarity:
In the JEE, the main focus is on concepts while in the BITSAT, the focus is centered on formulas and the speed of solving questions.
- LANGUAGE proficiency:
Here lies the catch for NRIs- while the JEE tests you only on your knowledge and proficiency of core subjects of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, the BITSAT tests your English proficiency and Logical reasoning as well. This is like a double-edged sword for NRIs. While some of them may be absolutely comfortable with the language, some may have their challenges, coming from non-English speaking countries and for them, it is essential to hone their English skills.
- Aggregate SCORE:
The most important point of comparison is that for appearing in BITSAT, students should have obtained a minimum of aggregate 75 percent marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects in the board exam, which is not the case for JEE.
- AVAILABILITY of seats:
The most important point is that while the JEE offers over 9600 seats under various colleges, BITSAT offers admission for only 2000 candidates.
- Number of ATTEMPTS:
A candidate may choose to appear for JEE-Main only thrice in his or her life while he or she can appear for BITSAT only twice-once during the year of appearing in the board exams and again in the next year.
While making a choice for the college test to appear for, the candidate must keep in mind the above points and then accordingly decide on which institute he should target for his engineering course.
