Are engineering colleges having NRI quota?
A Non-Resident Indian is a person who has been living outside the physical boundaries of India for a period exceeding 10 years. Several Indian engineering colleges offer admission to NRI students under NRI quota. This quota is generally fixed at 15 percent of the seats; however, it is not a fixed percentile and is sometimes governed by the Directorate of Technical Education. In order to be eligible for the quota, one has to pass his 12th grade with an Indian board outside India with an aggregate score of 60 percent or more.
There is also a special NRI quota called the Children of Indian workers in Gulf countries and this is open for children whose parent(s) are working in the Gulf. However, it must be noted that not all colleges offering NRI quota have this special category of quota.
The list of colleges offering NRI quota is as follows:
- College of Engineering, Pune (or COEP)
- Institute of Chemical Technology (or ICT)NRI
- Xavier Institute of Engineering
- Thadomal Shahani College of Engineering (or TSEC)

- In addition to the above, almost all NITs and IITs offer NRI quota.
