JEE 2018 Exam Dates, Eligibility Criteria, Syllabus, Exam Centers (Abroad) etc.
Here is a detailed list of important events with respect to the JEE examination:
Eligibility Criteria: Candidates with the following eligibility are deemed fit to appear for the JEE Mains exam, 2018.
Date Of Birth-Candidates born on or after Oct 1, 1993, are eligible to appear for the JEE Mains examination, however, there is an exception to this rule in the case of SCs, STs and OBCs-they have a five-year relaxation to the upper age limit, so in this case, the date deemed is Oct 1, 1988. Note that the date mentioned in the secondary school certificate shall be considered.
Qualification- The student must have passed/appearing in Maths, Physics, and Chemistry as three out of 5 subjects.
Year of passing – Candidates who have appeared and passed the higher secondary examination in 2016 and 2017 are also eligible to apply. Candidates appearing the final examination of 12th in 2018 are also eligible to apply.
Exception: if a candidate appeared the 12th examination in 2015 but not passed in 2015, passed in 2016, he is not eligible. Diploma holders can appear in JEE mains with the sole purpose of admission to IITs by way of appearing in JEE Advanced.
Marks Obtained: For admission in IITs, NITs, CFTIs, a candidate should have obtained 75% marks in the 12th examination or must be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th examination of respective board, however, the qualifying marks for SC/ST is 65%.
A number of attempts: A candidate is allowed a maximum of three attempts.

The subject wise syllabus details are as under:
Mathematics- Statics, Complex Numbers, Parabola, ellipse and hyperbola, Binomial Theorem, Circles, Permutation and Combination, Differential equation, Solutions of triangle, Straight line and pair of lines, Probability, Trigonometric functions, Definite Integral, Determinant and Matrices, Compound angles, Quadratic equation and expression, Method of Differentiation, Indefinite Integral, Limit, Continuity, and Derivability, Logarithms and related expression.
Chemistry- States of matter, Atomic structure, Chemical bonding & molecular structure, Chemical thermodynamics, Solutions, Redox reactions and electrochemistry, Surface chemistry, Classification of elements and periodicity in properties, General principles and processes of isolation of metals, Hydrogen, Block elements (alkali and alkaline earth metals), Hydrocarbons, Organic compounds.
Physics- Laws of motion, energy and power, Work, Rotational motion, Properties of solids and liquid, Thermodynamics, Kinetic theory of gases, Gravitation, Oscillations and waves, Current electricity, Magnetic effects of current and magnetism, Electromagnetic induction and alternating currents, Electromagnetic waves, Dual nature of matter and radiation, Optics, Atoms and nuclei, Communication systems, Electronic devices.
