What are JEE Eligibility criteria for NRI students?

The following mentioned for the JEE Main 2025 Eligibility criteria for NRI students. All these four criteria should be satisfied:

  • Qualification

Should have attempted Class XII (or equivalent) examination: An NRI wants to apply for JEE should have attempted the Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in to appear for the JEE Exam.

  • Age Limit

There is no Age Limit for an NRI willing to participate for JEE Exam. In a case, the candidate belongs to a country where a minimum stint in the armed forces for a certain period is compulsory before/after Class XII exam, for this, a candidate is supposed to upload a testimonial issued by competent/ certificate authority to this effect at the time of registration.

  • Number of Attempts

The NRI candidates can attempt JEE Main a maximum of two times in successive years.

NRI Admission at IITs

An NRI is not considered to appear for JEE if he or she already took admission in IIT. In a case, if the admission becomes canceled, still no eligibility to register for JEE.

If an NRI (Non-Resident of India), fulfills all these criteria, he/she must check his performance in Class XII (or equivalent) board examination required for JEE registration.

For this, an NRI should satisfy at least one of the following two criteria:

  • An aspirant must have got at least 75% aggregate marks in Class XII (or equivalent) OR
  • Aspirants must come in the top 20% of successful candidates in their respective Class XII (or equivalent).

Moreover, the marks scored in the following 5 subjects will be supposed to add while calculating the aggregate marks for checking the top 20 percentile criterion.

  • Chemistry
  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Language (In a case, an NRI took more than one language, then the language with the higher marks will be counted)
  • The highest marks of another subject apart above mentioned

Moreover, if board awards only grades, then the candidate is supposed to get a certificate from the Board specifying the equivalent marks and submit the same. In any circumstance such a certificate is not issued by the board then the final decision will be taken by the Joint Implementation Committee.

If a Board does not declare the individual subjects' result but provides only the aggregate marks, in such a case, these marks will be considered as such.

Furthermore, if an NRI has passed his/her Class XII (or equivalent) in 2025 and wants to reappear in 2025 to get good marks, in this situation, the higher marks obtained in 2025 or 2025 will be considered.
