Engineering Colleges (apart from IITs) for NRIs that accept JEE Advanced Rank:
While it couldn’t get harder for the JEE aspirants in India to grab a seat in their longed-for engineering colleges, the NRI, PIO & OCI Students also have no other option but to grind to reserve themselves a seat in the Indian college they aim to get into. If JEE-Advanced ranking were to be considered as a stride in the tactic of seeking admission, there are few colleges available for the NRI to-be engineers! Apart from IITs, the major colleges that accept JEE Advanced Rank are:
- IISERs:
While being designated as the Institutes of National Importance, these colleges cluster to form a group of prominent leading colleges. With their arms spread across the entire nation, IISERs can be located in the states of West Bengal, Maharashtra, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. By 2020, IISER aims to appear amongst the top 100 colleges in the world.
While the establishment embraces the title of being an Autonomous Institute under MHRD (Ministry of Human Resource Development), it has its arms open for the NRI students as well. The only way open for the NRIs to get in IISERs is through JEE-Advanced score. A quota of 15%, in entirety, is offered by the institute over and above the natural number of seats for all the colleges. While no category reservation rules will hold any significance, the non-native aspirant has to acquire a place in the top 10,000 rank list of JEE-Advanced. A score of 75% in +2 or equivalent methodology is vital for the admission.
- IIST (Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology):
Besides being a government-aided institute, IIST is one of the chief providers in the field of studying and research concerning space science. It is based at Valiamala, Nedumangad Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. It is affiliated to Department of Space and Indian Space Research Organisation.
As far as the admission of NRI students is concerned, the institute has the same rules set as for the native candidates belonging to the general category. At least 20% in totality is required to be scored in the JEE-advanced exam along with the prerequisite attainment of 5% in each of the three subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics).
- IISc:
Providing education in the fields of science, engineering, design and management, IISc has topped the NIRF ranking list considering overall facets as well as that of a university. The diversity of the Institute is reflected in the divisions held, some of them being Chemical Sciences, Electrical Sciences and Physical and Mathematical Sciences.
The institute supports the idea of the association on an international level in the aspects of research and education while carrying out the interchange of not only undergraduate and graduate students but also faculty and researchers on different degrees. NRI students are invited to apply with an applicable score attained in JEE-Advanced.
- RGIPT (Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology):
Situated in Jais, Amethi, Uttar Pradesh, RGIPT proffers technical along with management training to its students pertaining primarily to the petroleum industry. While enfolding the status of ‘Institute of National Importance’, RGIPT embraces a governance structure identical to that of NITs and IITs. The campuses borne by the institute are the ones in Jais, Sivsagar and Bangalore. Some dominant brands that have linked with the institute so far for placements are Oil India, Bharat Petroleum, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, etc.
The institute hails NRI students with a JEE-Advanced score acceptable considering the cut-offs dictated by the university. Also, an aggregate above 60% in the 12th grade or any equivalent course is demanded. It is worth noting that colour blind candidates are not admitted in B.Tech. course in the petroleumprogramme.
The admission process follows the regular norms in these premier institutes. It is, thus, the condition applicable for applying that seeks the efforts of the NRI students.
Note: According to the latest update from DASA, from session 2021-22 onwards, JEE Mains Rank is mandatory for NRI/ PIO/ OCI/ FN Students to be eligible for DASA & CIWG Schemes. Hence, 2020-21 will be the last year when SAT 2 scores will be considered for DASA/CIWG Scheme.
