NRI Quota Documents Needed by NRIs for JEE admission?
Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) have been defined as people who have lived outside India for a period of 10 years or more at a stretch.
For the purpose of JEE admission, there is one more category of NRI known as “Children of Indian Workers in Gulf Countries,” this is a special NRI quota that is sometimes available exclusively to children whose parents are Indian citizens and have been working in the Gulf.
There are a limited number of seats in some colleges under this quota. Generally, a 15% of total admission offered by a college is reserved for NRIs, as directed by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE).
However, not all colleges stick to this principle. We shall now discuss briefly the eligibility criteria and documents needed by NRIs in order to seek admission under JEE:

NRI Quota Documents Required:
- Eligibility proof of NRI/PIO
- Work permit or residence proof
- Applicant’s passport-for both PIO category and foreign nationals. For PIO’s, the passport of senior family members whose passports have been issued by the Indian Govt.
- Completely filled and signed application form with current passport size photograph
- Nonrefundable application fee (DD) of Rs.15000/-favoring “Director, College of Engineering Pune,” payable at Pune.
- High School certificate statement of marks or a grade sheet along with a sheet that shows the relation between marks and grades, issued by a competent authority.
- For foreign nationals, a copy of the passport is to be mandatorily submitted.
NRI Quota Eligibility Criteria:
The following shall be considered eligible for applying to JEE admission under the NRI quota:
- Students who have passed their 10th or 12th or both from Indian boards like –CBSE or ICSE with at least 60% aggregate
- There is an exception in the case of NRIs from Pakistan or Bangladesh
- Note that in case you are an NRI and are looking to apply for a graduate course in Pharmacy or Engineering, you can directly apply for AIEEE, no need to appear for MTH-CET.
NRI Quota Admission Process:
After having decided on a college, the students must regularly check the college’s website for any notifications.
Colleges either put up a notice of form or ask you to print it for submission. Students must keep all the original documents with them. Sometimes they may be asked to submit the fee as soon as admission is offered.
