JEE or SAT: Which One is Better For an NRIs?

Before comparing JEE and SAT, let us ask you. Have you decided on the college or institution you want to get admission in? If YES, then you can go on. But if not, then you should find out the best college that suits your academic needs.

Because before choosing the better among the two, we should know which rank is expected by the college or institute where you think to move.

Also, institutions nowadays not only look for good rank but also many other things like interest in extracurricular activities, your lifestyle, etc.

In case, you score a good rank on SAT, it doesn’t mean you will get admitted in a reputed college because you scored a good rank. Apart from scores, colleges also notice how you present yourself to them.

Colleges look for complete packages today so rather than focusing on studies only, you should also develop other extracurricular interests like games, or art, or anything that motivates you.

Note: According to the latest update from DASA, from session 2021-22 onwards, JEE Mains Rank is mandatory for NRI/ PIO/ OCI/ FN Students to be eligible for DASA & CIWG Schemes. Hence, 2020-21 will be the last year when SAT 2 scores will be considered for DASA/CIWG Scheme.

Lets’ clarify what is the SAT and JEE?

1. The term SAT refers to the USA's scholastic aptitude test. While the term JEE is the Joint Entrance Exam which is used for getting into Indian engineering colleges.

The SAT is deemed as the more standard test when compared with JEE.

2. The SAT scores are registered to compare with other test scores. While the scores of JEE are based on ranking systems.

3. So if you are planning to give a test as an NRI, you are recommended to go for SAT because JEE doesn’t analyze anything, except the aspirant's performance.

4. The SAT exam is harder than the JEE because it actually measures the basics of the aspirants.

While in JEE, the stuff is simple, either it can come from anywhere but easy to answer. Moreover, the JEE test involves a lack of verbal skills, it means it can be attempted by anyone who has a low base of verbal skills.

5. One of the praiseworthy features of the SAT is you can attempt it a number of times till you get satisfactory results.

In brief, there are 6-9 SATs in a year. So you can get a chance to fetch more scores than your last attempt.

In the case of JEE, the best score can be 40-60% marks. If you can do much harder work, maybe you can fetch more marks, otherwise, it is impossible.

The JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) is eligible for the students holding the Indian passport, although, studying abroad. These students are eligible to take admission in Indian colleges even those born abroad.

These are entitled to sit for the exam and can experience an equal potential in taking admission to the colleges associated with the JEE exam.

Conclusion:

Both tests have their benefits. The SAT is simple for those NRIs who have less interest in maths because the math section of JEE advance is tough. However, if you are good enough in English then choose SAT.

Moreover, JEE test is quite long as it takes 3 hours while SAT test is divided into short tests of variable duration and an average duration of each is 15-20 minutes. If any longer test is invited in SAT, it will be no longer than 40 minutes.

So it is up to you to choose one as per your interest.
