Note: According to the latest update from DASA, from 2021 onwards, JEE Scores will be made mandatory for NRI/PIO/OCI Students to be eligible for DASA & CIWG Schemes. Hence, 2020 will be the last year when SAT 2 scores will be considered for DASA/CIWG Scheme.

 

Process of Admission in Indian Institute of Technology’s (IITs)

NRI Quota Eligibility 

In adherence to the directives outlined by the Supreme Court of India, the eligibility criteria for the NRI quota are as follows:

• At least one parent should qualify as a Non-Resident Indian (NRI) residing abroad.
• The individual sponsoring the education must be an NRI living outside India and maintain a first-degree relationship with the student.
• In situations where parents or relatives are not available, the guardian must be an NRI residing abroad. Additionally, the guardian must demonstrate a vested interest in the student's affairs, substantiated by an affidavit affirming their commitment to the student's well-being.
• The term "Nearest Relative" encompasses the genuine brother or sister of the parents, maternal or paternal grandparents, or first-degree maternal and paternal cousins.

 

Academic Eligibility

Admission under this category is specifically for students who completed their Class X or Class XII or both from an Indian board (such as ICSE or CBSE) outside India. The eligibility criteria include a minimum aggregate of 60%, except for NRIs from Bangladesh and Pakistan.

JEE Main – Irrespective of the orientation like NRI or Indian students, All students need to first appear for JEE Main entrance examination.

JEE Advanced – Qualified NRI students in JEE Main are now required to appear for JEE Advanced test.

Result Declaration – Based on the total JEE Advanced score and AIR (All India Rank) students will be asked to appear for counseling.

College Allocation – Students will be offered streams and colleges based on their AIR and score. Typically most popular streams and prestigious IITs gets filled in top 1000 ranks.

Note: To get into IITs there is no alternative for NRIs, JEE Examination is mandatory. No quota is involved or entertained.

Process of Admission in NITs & CFIs

Before even starting, let us tell you about NITs and CFIs here. NITs (National Institute of Technology) & CFIs (Centrally Funded Institutions) total 56 in number. These are government funded and reputed engineering colleges in india.

MHRD launched a scheme called DASA in 2001 by acknowledging the craze of NITs in India by NRIs all over the world. 

DASA Scheme: DASA stands for Direct Admission for Students Abroad and is a scheme by MHRD, India. This scheme assists you on-board about 32 National Institute of Technology’s (NITs), 25 Indian Institute of Information Technology’s (IIITs), 3 School of Planning & Architecture’s (SPAs) and 14 Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs).

DASA scheme is generally for the undergraduate NRI students who are willing to pursue Bachelors in Engineering / Technology / Architecture streams in the prestigious colleges like NITs, IIITs, SPAs and 14 other CFTIs.

This scheme is only applicable for the students that are planning to admit Engineering. It’s invalid for students that are into Medical.

You can avail some advantages if you’ve been residing and studying your 11th and 12th grade in any of the Gulf Countries. The Gulf countries list is as follows:
