Admitted to a top-tier university and anxious about the articles you need to do and you need to carry? No worries. Here’s the quick guide from TestprepKart. Check it and just follow the suggestions.
Important Things You Should Eye On:
- Finish the visa formalities
- Book the flight ticket
- Check how far is your university from the airport
- Get in touch with the Indian Student’s Association of the university or University Representative for pick up arrangements.
- Go for a thorough medical check-up. Take Flu shots, Kidney tests and Hepatitis vaccination
Survival Skills You Need to Master:
- Start watching YouTube videos on food making classes
- Enhance your basic computer skills
It’s Shopping Time Now:
- Shop the generic Over-the-counter (OTC) aspirins like Disprins, Paracetamol, Dettol /Savlon, Dygiene, Cough Syrup, Antiallergic, Burnol, Vicks, Crepe bandages etc.
- Put a few Disprins in your Cabin Luggage
- A Pressure Cooker (1Kg)
- Books – useful ones for higher studies
- Carry basic utensils like
o Plates
o Bowls
o Glasses
o Ladles
o Spoons
o Cooking Utensils
- Do not carry Glass utensils, Forks and Knives.
- Carry some basic spices like
o Hot spices or Garam Masala,
o Chicken Masala,
o Sugar,
o Salt,
o Zeera Powder etc.
- Do not carry tea/coffee, seeds like mustard or rice and lastly avoid the articles that might spill out (Oily Pickles etc) and spoil your luggage.
- Carry some dry fruits for the initial 4-5 days after you land in the foreign countries.
- Some articles are very expensive abroad. So don’t forget to carry these –
o Bed covers
o Pillowcases
o Towels
o Socks
o Undergarments
o Flip Flops
o Hair Oil
o Talc
Meanwhile avoid carrying the weighty material like Shoes, Blankets and Woollens.
Cabin Luggage Items:
- Fill up the cabin luggage with the following: A jacket, two pairs of socks, two towels, Toothpaste and a toothbrush, some aspirins, the money you are carrying, your admission letter and your passport.
- Carry at least 30 one dollar notes.
During Your Flight Journey:
- Consume a lot of water (avoid coffee)
- Stretch your limbs and have a walk for every 2-3 hours once.
- EAT
- Have an adequate sleep
Once You Land:
- Get the Immigration job done fast.
- Get rid of the jet lag and try to sleep. Force yourself to sleep at night.
- Go after on-campus jobs and RA/GAs as soon as possible

- Make some foreign friends and mingle with them
- Participate in as many activities as you can in the campus
- Join the student’s clubs.
- Professors are always helpful and accessible as well – build the good rapport with them
- Initiate Networking

- Always give attention to your CGPA – as an international student, you grades can’t fall below a specific minimum CGPA. So get to know the minimum CGPA of your university.
