Do I Need to Write SAT 1 or SAT 2?

This query often confuses all Indian (NRI) students. The answer to this question is rather simpler than you thought. SAT subject test was used to known as SAT II and earlier SAT 1 is known as regular/general SAT now.

It all depends on your ambition to which course to select or which college to get admission. Some colleges still follow old nomenclature.

SAT 1 versus SAT 2

SAT originally emanated as an Intelligent Quotient test meant for the military which after a series of changes took present form. It primarily assesses how the student copes up with college studies.

In SAT 2, there are 20 specific subjects. For engineering undergraduate admission in the US for students from India, Maths and Science are to be selected.

Major Difference Between SAT i and SAT II

While SAT I was meant to the aptitude earlier, now it tests the reasoning. SAT I tests takes 3 hour and 50 minutes multiple-choice tests with one essay question. Reading, Writing, and Maths are the subjects in SAT I. 

SAT II essentially tests your knowledge. There are 20 different topics in SAT II. Every SAT Subject Test duration varies, but most of the SAT Subject Tests are  of one-hour multiple-choice tests. 

With the changes in 2016, the present focus on SAT I is a general knowledge rather than logic. SAT I is also known as Reasoning Test and SAT II as Achievement Tests

Most of the colleges have SAT 1 mandatory whereas only limited colleges insist on SAT II.

Which One to Choose- SAT I or SAT II?

SAT 1 is compulsory for most of the colleges whereas SAT II is required only for a few selected colleges. Further, each institute stipulates additional requirements like maths 1 and 1 science.

It is advisable that you go through individual college websites for specific requirements. Some institutes are a bit more flexible. In other words, the option of SAT I /or SAT II is dependent on the institutions.
