Expert Guide: How Many Times Should You Take the SAT?
If a student is not able to get requisite score in SAT exam he can appear for re- test. Nevertheless, there is no fixed number as how many a student can appear for the SAT exam. Some Indian/NRI students just appear once while there are others who have to take this test twice or in some cases even more than that.
Now, if Indian/NRI students need to figure out whether they should opt for a retake of the test, there are few things to be borne in mind:
-
Required test scores for the admission process– Most of the colleges have required test scores. If the student is able to meet the requirements there is no need to go in for the retake of the test as getting better scores will not make any kind of difference.
-
Average Test Scores- There is some colleges which do not have a required test score but they inform the students about the average test scores. These scores are basically calculated as per the test scores of students who were given admission in the previous year. The colleges usually like to offer admission to those students who fall within or score more than the previous class average. So now if a student gets a score which is below the average test score, he or she must opt for retaking the exam. And if your score exceeds the average, there is no need for you to take the SAT test again.
-
Scholarship Requirements- In order to grab scholarships or merit awards there is need to get specific test scores. Some colleges give merit awards on basis of fixed scores while some award as per sliding scale which is based on the GPA. So it is first vital to know about the requirements pertaining to these awards and then proceed accordingly. You must also check net price calculators to evaluate what scholarship or award you will get if your score increases and then accordingly you can plan whether a re-test is needed or not. In case you will get a lot of aid by getting higher score you must try for it. In some of the cases it has been seen that scoring just 1 or 2 points more can make a huge amount of different in the aid you will get. So, examine your test score properly and see if there is benefit in putting extra amount of effort.
-
Athletic requirements– Student athletes require certain test score. In case you fail to meet that eligibility you should opt for the re-test.
-
Chances of performing better– Many students feel that if they appear for a re-test they will perform better. It is quite possible that they were distracted during the exam or they were not able to prepare properly, so, if you think that by once appearing in the test, you have got an idea and appearing again will do a lot of difference you must go for it.
So, these are few of the points which you must consider if you wish to appear again for your SAT exam.
