New SAT 2016 Exam Pattern

SAT 2016 exam pattern undergoes changes to benefit all. Here's How!!!

Scholastic Aptitude Test conducted by College Board for admissions in SAT programmes has always been the major objective of the students who want to study abroad.

The new pattern of SAT 2016 exam pattern will help in a better assessment of the aptitude of the candidates in terms of their critical thinking, problem solving and data analysis skills. SAT has introduced changes in the examination pattern 2016 in their structure, timings, scores and blueprint. This year SAT exam pattern has come up with new features such as optional essay writing, fewer multiple choice questions and no negative marking for incorrect answers.

 

Please find below the following changes in the SAT 2016 examination pattern:-

 

1) Marking Sceme

  SAT 2015 (Old Pattern)   SAT 2016 (New Pattern)
  0.25 mark is deducted on every incorrect answer.   No negative marking on incorrect answers.
  Total Marks=2400   Total Marks=1600
  Maths-800   Maths-800
  Reading-800   Evidence based reading & writing-800
  Writing-800   Sub-Marks are available.
    Optional Essay can be scored separately.

 

2) Structure of Questions

  SAT 2015 (Old Pattern)   SAT 2016 (New Pattern)
  Critical reading questions-3 of 25 minutes each.            Evidence based reading and writing question-1
  Maths Questions-3 of 25 minutes each.      – Reading Section-65 minutes.
  Writing Questions-3 of 25 minutes each.      – Language & Writing Section-35 Minutes.
  Essay Question-1 of 25 minutes.   Maths Question-1
  Experimental Question-1      – 1 Section with Calculator-55 Minutes.
  Multiple choice Questions-5 Choices      – 1 Section without Calculator-25 Minutes.

  

3) Timings

  SAT 2015 (Old Pattern)   SAT 2016 (New Pattern)

  3 hours and 45 Minutes are allotted to the students

  to complete the examination.                                            

  3 hours and 50 Minutes are allotted along

  with an optional essay to complete the examination.

 

 4) Administration

  SAT 2015 (Old Pattern)   SAT 2016 (New Pattern)

  Print available with details related to content and skills.    

  Digital version is available with less number

  of questions. Details are related to content & skills.

 

5) Essay

  SAT 2015 (Old Pattern)   SAT 2016 (New Pattern)
  The essay is mandatory.                                                 

 The essay is optional and can be written in 650-700 words.

  Time taken – 25 Minutes.   Time Taken -50 Minutes.

 

6) Maths

  SAT 2015 (Old Pattern)   SAT 2016 (New Pattern)
  Tests the computational skills.                  

  Tests the problem solving skills, data analysis skills,

  algebraic skills and advanced maths

  Calculators allowed for all mathematical questions.

  Real life incident problem solving questions accompanied

  by informational graphics.

  Multiple choice questions.   Calculator is allowed for only 37 questions.
  Grid-in-questions.   Multiple choice questions.
    Grid-in-questions with 1 enhanced grid-in question.
