1. Is the first person can be used? 
The first person needs to be used, especially when you are writing about yourself and your goals. When you write about others, you are permitted to y=use second or third person format. The background could be spanning from grade school, any honour received by you-you can put in the first person.      
 
2. What is the ideal length of an essay?
