There is No Defined Number

The fact is there is no hard and fast rule which you can use to get the admission. The number of colleges, you should apply completely depends upon on your specific situation.

Can You Apply to Fewer Colleges?

Sometimes, it is not possible to apply to many colleges. The reason behind is you are not financially strong to pay the application of every college you considered to apply as the application fee can be up to $75. Besides, SAT endows you to send the maximum of four free score reports to colleges. If you suppose to send more than four, then you have to pay $11.25 per report for the SAT.

Hence, if you are financially weak, then you should limit your application, else, application forms will suck much of your saving which will tight your position for paying your tuition fee.
