Academic Eligibility:

SAT is a good course that helps students get a good ranking with leading medical colleges in the USA. It may be advantageous if you can join a premier SAT coaching institute in India to enhance your chances of securing admissions. The undergraduate course of medicines leading to an MD degree in the US takes 4 years. There will be a residency of varying duration say 3 to 7 years. To get a fellowship, which is almost equal to a postgraduate degree in the US, another 4 years need to be spent.

Even if you have an MBBS degree from India, the candidates should pass USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Examination) to be eligible for the residency. (Unfortunately, even if you have a post-graduate medical degree from India, the procedure is same).

The undergraduate course in medicine is expensive, especially for foreign students. Only a small relief you have is the limited scholarship schemes available which vary between Universities

Another course enabling you to get admission is the MCAT (Medical College Admissions Test). A good MCAT score will take you through. However, the Government of India has now introduced the NEET exam as the basic criterion for anyone looking for admission for any medical course abroad.

You may have to research early on the requirements stipulated by various Universities. The respective websites should guide you properly on the dates, procedures, fees structure, scholarships, etc. very clearly.

Studying medicine in the US is extremely challenging, but you should weigh all aspects before deciding.
