MIT Admission Procedure Complete Guideline

Besides Standard tests, few other criteria are considered by MIT in ascertaining the eligibility for the student who is applying to MIT. The MIT takes a holistic approach to all the academic information including grades, scores, classes, etc. The MIT score is one of the many criteria, so aspirants are advised not to be too much bothered about the low grade unnecessarily.

There are two specific categories for MIT admission- For native English speakers and  non-native English speakers:

Native English speakers:

MIT would insist on reasonably high SAT or the ACT score.  The subjects for SAT shall be minimum two that is one in one in math (level 1 or 2), and one in a science subject (physics, chemistry, or biology e/m). MIT does not give weight to any specific subject or for that matter any level.

Non-native English speakers:

Ideally, of you can take up the Native English test, there is nothing like it. But alternatively, you may take up the TOEFL and two SAT Subject Tests. Specifically, you may opt for one in math (level 1 or 2) and one in science (physics, chemistry, or biology e/m).

If your mother tongue is not English, or you do not speak English at home, it is advisable to take the TOEFL, although not mandatory.

MIT also encourages candidates with excellent writing and communication skills.  This is because effective communication both oral and writing is called for understanding the curriculum better. Also, this would enable the candidates to communicate better. The skill would allow proper presentation of facts, data, and ideas.  It is expected of the candidate to maintain the communication skill throughout their stay with MIT. The initial grooming at MIT shall be dependent on your ability in the language.

Super Score

MIT also has a system to take up the highest score in each section especially if you are repeated tests. (There is a misconception that MIT takes the average of SAT, ACT or any SAT). This super scoring is advantageous for students applying with old and new SAT scores. In other words, MIT would judge the best in you at any point in time.

Dates to remember for Testing and Reporting Scores

The candidates are advised to take the test in November each year. For regular action, you may opt for December test date. The latest scores should be submitted invariably before the deadline. Only official communications from the testing authority shall be considered by MIT. (The school transcripts are considered)

You should allow enough time for MIT to receive all the data. Your registration with MIT shall have to be foolproof.
