When should you rush your ACT/SAT score reports?
Both the ACT and the SAT provide rushing score reports. This means that if your test has already been scored, when you request a rush score, it will be provided within two days. It is important to note that rushed reports do not result in earlier exam scores, but they do provide schools with faster results than non-rushed reports in every circumstance. The only drawback is the cost, which is now approximately $30 for SATs and $15 for ACTs.

Benefits of Rushing
Rushing becomes advantageous when speed is a concern. For example, suppose UC Berkeley states the final ACT they'll take is in December. If you're taking the ACT in December, rushing may give you an advantage in case of unforeseen delays. Even schools sometimes make mistakes when estimating arrival times.
Similarly, if a school says the last ACT score they'll accept is in December, but you know you've improved significantly and plan to take the January exam (in addition to, not instead of), it's obviously in your best interest to be aggressive and send these reports in as soon as possible. If they don't accept it, they'll simply drop the scores — no big problem. If you speed the reports, and they get it on time, consider it, it may be a big plus.
When Not to Rush
If timing is not an issue, then do not rush. For example, the College Board states that normal scores can be received up to six weeks late. If you have no deadlines six weeks following your score request, it appears safe to pay for standard reports. Similarly, if a college specifically instructs you not to rush, you should avoid it on the basis of not defying a college order.
Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against normal speed. I've always taken my SATs/ACTs months ahead of time, and I've never rushed my own results.
