COVID 19 Effects On SAT Exam
SAT, a standardized exam that serves as a pathway to college for millions of applicants every year, announced on Wednesday that it will develop digital versions for students to take home in the fall if the Coronavirus pandemic continues to require social distancing.
The switch will mark one of the most important changes in the history of the admission exams, usually conducted under the watchful eye of proctors with a sharpened No. 2 pencil and paper in a highly secure environment.
June SAT Cancelled
In order to keep students safe and in alignment with public health guidelines and school closures across 192 countries, the College Board will not be able to administer the SAT or SAT Subject Tests on 6 June 2020.
How SAT Will be Conducted Online
Mr. Coleman said the board had called on low-income families to consider the conditions in their homes, such as the amount of internet bandwidth.
The testing tools should be available beforehand, he said, so students would not be logging in on testing day for the first time.
And the College Board would give students who had technical glitches a makeup day, he said. "A proportion of students will have errors that can not be anticipated and that's what we're planning."
Like the paper test, a digital, remote version of the SAT would measure what students are learning in school and what they need to know to be successful in college.
Future SAT Administrations, Including September 26
If it is safe from the point of view of public safety, the College Board will have SAT administration week-ends every month through the end of the calendar year, beginning in August. This includes the new administration on 26 September and the exams scheduled for 29 August, 3 October, 7 November and 5 December.
Students will register for these administrations from May onwards. During the week of May 26, the College Board will contact students directly to include an exact date. Eligible students can register with a fee waiver.
With each government, the College Board is planning to massively increase our capacity with students to take SAT once schools are re-opened.
College Board calling on their member schools and colleges, as well as local communities, to provide additional test centre capacity so that any student who wants to take SAT can do so.
