What Are the Deadlines for Applying to US Universities?
Being an Indian (NRI), it's quite important to make yourself familiar with the admission dates and deadlines of the US universities.
Here Earlly Action and Early Decision comes into play while applying to the US colleges for admission.
Early action (EA)
After you have a fairly good idea of the colleges you want to focus, the process of applying based on the deadline starts. Your early action will be rewarded. As a general guideline for the application initiated in November, you will be notified in December each year. You have the option to accept or reject by May next year.
Early decision (ED)
Another interesting option you have is Ed by which you stick to one University alone, an undertaking need be given to the institution that if you are given an acceptance. You have to necessarily accept this. And that decision shows your confidence level.

General Tips on Admission to US Universities
- Applying to College Online is the most preferred system. The application forms give the deadline very clearly. You may call up for clarifications with the helpline of the college.
- You should complete the necessary qualifying exam like SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test)/ ACT/ TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) well in advance before applying.
- All the documents specified should accompany the application form.
- A centralised process for more than 800 US universities is also available.
- Scholarships are available in the US for international students for which early submission of application form is called for.
The deadlines for application for the undergraduate schools/ colleges/ Universities are not uniform and each institution has its own norms and sequences. The relevant data could be obtained from respective websites. As a general rule, only applications received by the deadline shall be entertained. However, some Universities are a bit flexible in this regard. Incidentally, some Universities entrust the admission responsibilities to their respective department.
